In 1990 Mark
O'loughlin left the police force as a sergeant.
He was an insurance
client of Dennis Jones.
According to an employee of the broker, Janine Fletcher,
O'loughlin would regularly meet with Jones at his offices.
Fletcher, among
other things claimed that O'Loughlin had made it known to those at the offices
that he regularly took prostitutes to his holiday shack at Bonnie Doon in
Victoria's north-east.
This came to light
at the inquest into the murder of Adele Bailey at which friend, colleague and
fellow Bonnie Doon land owner Denis
Tanner was the star witness.
O'Loughlin made several insurance claims to
Jones company including a robbery of a massive amount of alcohol from his Bonnie
Doon shack.
He also made a claim
for equipment and goods stolen from his car.
The goods were later advertised for
sale with the contact phone number being that of South Melbourne police.
Fletcher was called
upon to look into these claims between 1978 and 1981.
Her snooping lead to
considerable pressure from police.
She was pulled over in South Melbourne and
threatened by a police man she is sure was Denis
Tanner and told to lay off her investigations.
She continued to
receive death threats in the ensuing months.
Jones also told her to back off.
By the time the
Bailey inquest came around O'Loughlin had left the force to become security
manger of Crown Casino (as at April 21, 1999).
