Michael Daou

On November 18, 2006, Michael Daou, 22, was found in the boot of a burnt-out car at Narre Warren.

Police alleged that Mr Daou was abducted from Red Court Reserve, Scoresby, and died of gun-shot wounds.

Police alleged that Mr Daou's murder followed a drug deal gone wrong.

On January 12, 2007, police raided properties in Dandenong, Frankston, Mooroolbark, Endeavour Hills, Templestowe, Docklands, Port Melbourne, Wheelers Hill and Scoresby.

Acting Det-Sgt Daniel Ryan told the court police had executed search warrants between 2am and 4am and seized a number of items they still needed to assess.

Acting Det-Sgt Ryan gave evidence that police had seized more than $450,000 cash and $600,000 worth of drugs in the raids.

He said police had intercepted calls on 14 phones, with 2000 recorded phone calls still to be gone through.

More than 30 phone calls related to the murder, he said.

The raids led to 6 arrests.

Later in the day, a father and son were among six men who appeared in court over the kidnap of Daou,

Five of the men were also charged with the murder Daou.

Andrew Johnston, 25; Kevin Ng, 22; brothers Quoc Minh Bui, 24, and Ngoc Quoc Bui, 21; and Adam Charles Hargrave, 26, faced court, each charged with murder, kidnap and unlawful imprisonment.

Adam Hargrave's father, Garry Charles Hargrave, 51, of Mooroolbark, is charged with kidnap and being an accessory to murder.

Police allege that Mr Hargrave Sr helped clean up the crime scene and dispose of a vehicle, and threatened witnesses.

Father and son also face charges of conspiring to murder a woman and, together with Ngoc Quoc Bui, of trafficking a commercial quantity of ecstasy.

Police alleged that the Hargraves and Ngoc Quoc Bui were behind "a major drug distribution network".

The court heard that significant forensic analysis of seized items still needed to take place, with testing of blood and bodily fluids.

Prosecutor Moya O'Brien told the court the men needed to appear in the dock separately for "security reasons".

The court heard that Mr Hargrave Sr was being treated for aggressive prostate cancer.

Magistrate Peter Mealy remanded Mr Johnston, of Docklands; Mr Ng, of Endeavour Hills; the Bui brothers (Quoc, of Dandenong North and Ngoc, of Frankston); Adam Hargrave, of Docklands; and Garry Hargrave, of Mooroolbark, in custody to appear in court again on June 1.
